Another year, another Fashion Week in the big city of New York. Here are our picks for the top five shows of the Spring season.
Marc Jacobs

There are fashion shows and then there are fashion shows, and Marc Jacobs definitely knows the difference, always bringing something a little bit different to his carefully picked designs. This season, Jacobs sent models down in colourful dreadlock head pieces which caused quite the stir in the press. The clothing was effortlessly cool and colourful, with thigh high patterned socks and funky patterns to complete the Marc Jacobs ‘look’. The runway was lit by hanging light bulbs, giving the show a grungy, dingy feel despite the models looking like dolls. It is safe to say that Jacobs is the topic of conversation all over the world, and not just for the clothes. The designer brought a mixture of the 80s and 90s pop culture into modern fashion.
Marchesa

For the Marchesa Spring 2017 show, Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig did not hold back, sending gowns of our dreams down the runway. There are stunning pieces to be worn from sunrise to midnight – a look for every occasion.
Concentrating on corseted bodies, infinite ruffles and perfectly formed 3D flowers, the designers remind us that Marchesa is always intricately detailed and well thought through.
Alexander Wang

You can always depend on Alexander Wang to shake it up a little and bring us something painfully cool that we haven’t seen before. This year the designer brought us beautifully cropped shirts and boxer shorts to create a relaxed holiday look. The show then continued with some brighter looks, such as neon cropped jackets and hats that you would likely come across at the gym not on a catwalk, but isn’t that half the fun of a Wang collection?
Wang also showed us his upcoming collaboration with Adidas, which had the audience (and us) drooling.
Jeremy Scott

We all love Jeremy Scott and his wacky designs, but for the Spring 2017 show Scott gave us even more than what he usually does, which we didn’t even think was possible. Handbags and dresses were made to look tubes of toothpaste, and there was no shortage of bright colours and eye-catching prints. There were sequinned hot pink ensembles, mini dresses with long sleeves, one piece bathing suits and graphic t-shirts which read ‘HOT HOT HOT’; all of which is pretty normal for Jeremy Scott. The Jeremy Scott woman is always absolutely crazy and out-there, and we hope it never changes.
Ralph Lauren

The Spring 2017 Ralph Lauren collection showcased just how talented the designer really is, bringing a bit of classy cowgirl to the catwalk. Most of the models were wearing hats, handbags with matching chokers or oversized necklaces and long ponchos. The colour palette didn’t stray from browns, beiges and blacks, and intricate floral embroidery on button-ups and coats gave a feminine touch to the collection. Kendall Jenner also stomped down the runway in the oversized leather jacket of our dreams, giving us massive leather envy.
So there you have it, Flur Magazine’s top 5 picks from New York fashion week. Until next season!
