Kai Dunkel is a german brand definitely not inspired by Lederhosen – let’s be thankful for that. The menswear brand is quite new to the fashion world, however, is making an impact with their collection entitled “EXITUS.” After seeing the fashion film, I felt like I just went through a dystopian-like vibe. Picture post-apocalyptic, picture chaos, picture anarchy.
The collection is sharp, monochromatic and murky. It reminds me of what Kanye West would be like if he was on antidepressants. Kai Dunkel stated that he was inspired by books such as 1984 and Brave New World, well, he nailed it. You definitely feel the suppression and frustration. The atmosphere is industrial and gloomy, however, resonates a fight for justice. The collars are propped up nice and the buckles are designed for protection, the angles are sharp a give a swiftness to Dunkel’s pieces. Paired with a gas mask – the stylish resistance wore this to fight the leaders, the rebels who appreciate a wool coat wore this while fighting the system. It’s the collection that inspires change.
With everything that’s happening in the world today, Kai Dunkel’s style really speaks of what’s politically going on and symbolizes the strength of the people.
Dunkel’s pieces are aggressively chic, however, if you’re looking to spice your wardrobe up with some color, Kai Dunkel ain’t the light to your tunnel, there aren’t any spring florals going on here.
