Nika Čuić is a 25 year old fashion designer based in Zagreb, Croatia. She has completed three years of Fashion Design and Costumeography, for the past few years Nika has been developing her very own fashion label called ‘NIKA TOM’.
The young designer is definitely bringing new things with her creative practice, she focuses on transforming identity through her collections.
Now having successfully developing NIKA TOM the designer can really show what she has to offer, letting her creative mind take over and producing clothing you’d kill for.
Nika has recently dropped her collection S101, which is inspired on paintings of the French artist Pierre Souylages. The purpose for this collection was to find some kind of connection with art and design.
S101 you maybe thinking, why? Well, ‘S’ standing for Smocking which is a well known technique by artists. Meaning the textures from the paintings have been transformed into fabric, and ‘101’ is for the amount of shirts that were produced for the first garment of the collection.
Throughout every collection Nika explores new concepts, forms and shapes often experimenting with volume and fabric manipulations, but still staying consistent to her design expression.
Speaking with Nika personally she tells us that her designs are based on events that have transcurred, something that can be related to her current state of mind, observations of the surrounding environment
as in people, interpersonal relations, art and architecture.
After that Nika finds the reason why that inspiration has happened and is it worthy to make a whole story out of it. She tells us she does every part of the process by herself, initial idea, construction, pattern cutting and sewing.
As such a young designer Nika is definitely making herself know having recently showcased her collection at the Berlin Alternative Fashion Week which is still on everyones mind and was a complete success for Nika.
She says a lot of things are happening at the moment and she has a lot to look forward too, Nika we love your designs and the story attached with them.
