Sometimes, finding a movie to watch on Netflix isn’t that easy. You know, they have everything on there including some really shitty movies.
You don’t want to waste your time, you want to watch something juicy, something that’s going to make you laugh, have you embarrassingly sobbing into your pillow – I get it. Quit searching, here are some must-see movies that are out on Netflix.
Y Tu Mamá También
This movie takes your road trip to the Grand Canyon look like child’s play. It’s sensual, it’s passionate and it’s about coming-of-age when everything is confusing and you’re just trying to figure out what you’re going to do with your life. I don’t want to give too much away, but there are two guys and a woman, so, you know, shit goes down.
Shakespeare in Love
For those who are looking for a romance film, well, look no further. Shakespeare in Love is all about romance, I mean, what else do you expect when it’s about Shakespeare. It’s a delightful movie. When I first watched it as a young teen, I didn’t get it. But now as a jaded adult, this movie warms my bitter heart.
This is a classic comedy that if you haven’t seen, you need to. One of Mel Brook’s greatest films, it’s everything you’ll find never find in today’s comedies. Political correctness? Yeah, think again. The jokes can be stupid at times, yet, you still find yourself laughing at them. It’s a timeless movie that everyone can enjoy, no matter the age or era.
“Honey, I’m home!” How can you forget that? Well, you can thank The Shining for traumatizing you. This famous Stephen King novel came to life through Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of this freakishly terrifying movie. Plus, the cinematography in this film is what most film students wish they thought of first.
It’s a Christopher Nolan film, so you can’t expect anything less than extraordinary. Basically, the main character, Leonard Shelby, believes that his wife was raped and murdered during an attack. HIs head trauma is so severe, he’s unable to have short-term memory. While he’s suffering from this, he’s trying to find out who killed his wife.
I had to put this in here because I love that film. I’m sorry if it’s biased, but it’s a great comedy. It’s about a group of actors that go to Vietnam to film, however, in the process, they end up getting lost in the jungle and encounter a giant slew of on-going drama.
Cartel Land is one of the most chilling documentaries you could see. It shows the terrifying drug gangs in Mexico while also illustrating the difficulties that the grassroot revolutionaries are going through. You won’t be falling asleep while watching this movie, this will keep on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
It’s David Lynch, he makes fucked-up films. If you want a mind trip, watch this. That’s all I’m going to say.
I don’t feel at home in this world anymore
I know what you’re thinking, the title is a little long. But don’t focus on that. This movie is a little bit of everything. It’s about a woman who comes home to find out her place has been robbed. When she calls the police, they don’t want to help her. So, she takes the law into her own hands with the help of her neighbour. Through gruesome and comedic scenes it all comes down to one thing: we’re all struggling.
There’s probably nothing more terrifying than someone following you. With the horror genre especially, it’s hard to make a scary movie that hasn’t already been done – but this one is different. It Follows is a very simplistic movie which is what makes it absolutely terrifying. Director David Robert Mitchell was able to make an original movie out of a concept that’s been done 100 times. Watch it, you’ll never have sex again.
